Theresa Henry MBACP (Accred)
EMDR Practitioner

We may have shared experiences and similar circumstances with others but ultimately we are all unique in terms of how we shape our understanding of the world and our place in it. I value the complexity and uniqueness of each person I work with. I will work at your pace and will encourage you to explore the issues that are causing distress. I work with people in the same way as I like to be treated, with care, respect and dignity.

Often before seeking out professional support people have tried to work things out themselves but may feel ‘stuck’ and unable to move forward. I will help you figure out, explore and discover the reasons why. To make connection with and make sense of past events, situations and relationships and how they may influence current decision making and behaviours, and then identify therapeutic approaches and intervention which will help you move forward in your life.

I will treat you with respect and as an individual. I will not judge you or give you advice. I will support you to identify what you want to achieve from counselling and together we will set goals and review our work. I have the skills and experience to help you through this process.

You will receive a service from me which is tailored to meet your needs, which supports you to face the issues and emotions which are causing you distress and take action: not only will you have my support within the face-to-face sessions, I can also, if appropriate, provide you with reading materials and strategies which you can focus on in between sessions, referrals to organisations and services, and provide written reports if required.

As an accredited Counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I have undertaken a robust  assessment by the BACP which involves the submission of written work on theory and practice, a case study and supporting supervisors report. I am one of a few accredited counsellors working in this area.

It can be a  difficult decision choosing a counsellor, I would happy to have an informal chat with you prior to making any appointments.

"When I first met Theresa this was my first step into meeting a counsellor and opening up about the current difficulties in my life. I had been advised to do this years ago but never felt compelled to follow through although I knew I needed to talk to someone. Theresa instantly put me at ease and allowed me to explore the issues that were causing me most difficulty and gave me practical non-judgmental help which has given me clear focus and allowed me to deal with historical issues. If you are thinking about speaking to someone, I’d have no hesitation in suggesting her as a source of solid advice delivered in a calm, professional way which allows you to move forwards."
"Theresa has been wonderful to work with over the past few months. She has a warm and welcoming personality that put me at ease almost immediately and which made the sometimes daunting task of talking about myself much easier to do."
"Going to counselling with Theresa is one of the most useful things I have ever done.  It has really increased my confidence and had a very positive impact on my relationships with those closest to me.  Theresa is a sensitive and caring professional who encourages you to take responsibility for your own emotional wellbeing in a supportive way.  She made me challenge my own roles and behaviour and those of others in my life. This encouraged me to look at my life afresh and to adopt strategies that helped me feel happier and more in control."
"She's an excellent listener and what's more really seems to hear the things you say, reflecting and remembering for later. She's flexible in her methods and offers you the chance to do things the way that works best for you, whatever that might be."
"I found talking to Theresa very easy from the start because she is genuinely interested in you as a person and is very quick to grasp the situation."
"Theresa has really helped me think through things and put structures in place for dealing with anything that life might throw at me, making me more confident and content right here and now. I've enjoyed our sessions and would highly recommend her to anyone for a kind and encouraging counsellor in Tayside."
"My sessions with Theresa have helped me feel more confident and in control of my life; she's introduced me to easy and practical exercises that help me stay well. I particularly appreciate Theresa's flexible and responsive approach, providing a safe space in which to acknowledge some of my more difficult thoughts and feelings."
